I seem to recall from your posts that you store some of your polishes in Helmers. I got a couple of Helmers myself, but as they fill up, I worry about their weight capacity. Have you had any problems with your filled up Helmer drawers?
I’ve had my Helmers for over a year and a half and haven’t had any problems with the drawers failing due to too much weight. I even added a third Helmer and stacked two of them and haven’t had a problem.
Looking back at your helmer pictures I noticed that you sort your polish by color. My question is: what do you do with glitters? Particularly glitters with more than one color in the mix. Do you sort them with the color families, or do you have a separate glitter drawer? Thanks!
I have a separate drawer for clear based glitters and another drawer for holos.
I'm not sure if this has been asked before, didn't see it in your FAQ on the main site, and you don't seem to have one here on tumblr.
Your photos always seem amazing and usually pretty dang color accurate. May I ask what camera you use? :) I'm frustrated with my Canon point and shoot's capability of photographing purple- it's always some shade of BLUE. :(
Thank you for the compliment. Of course you can ask. I use a Canon T1i dSLR with a Tamron Macro lens but you don’t need a super fancy camera to get good nail shots.
I used a Canon point & shoot for years and took good pictures with it. I can’t stress enough the importance of white balance so put your camera in manual and adjust the white balance for the lighting you are shooting in. Also, pick a neutral background so the camera only focuses on the nails.
What is your favorite fast drying top coat to use with Zoya polishes?
I usually use the Zoya Color Lock System with their polishes since I have found they wear better that way. The drying drops definitely help and if you apply all the products thin enough, the dry time shouldn’t be too long.
However, I have used Prolana Quick & Slick with good results as it doesn’t contain Cellulose Acetate Butyrate. If you find a quick dry without that ingredient, it should work well like China Glaze No Chip Top Coat.
I hear a lot about finding nail polishes at nail salons- what's the etiquette for that? Can you go in simply looking to buy dusties, or should I plan to get a manicure?
I rarely get professional manicures so I’ve always gone dusty hunting without purchasing a service. Just ask if you can look at the nail polish for sale.
A lot of times they keep it under the cash register in a glass cabinet which can make perusing the polish a challenge. If the salon is busy they may ask exactly what color you are looking for so have an idea of which shades you hope to find.
I try to go at slow times and see if they will let me dig in to look but it really depends on the person’s demeanor.
It can be intimidating the first time you go but it gets easier and if you can take a friend along, do it.
I am dying to try flakies. But I can't find them ANYWHERE! Hidden treasure is of course impossible to find.. as is the Anna Sui... but i don't want to break the bank by purchasing them off ebay. any advice? thx :)
Nubar has a flakie that is identical to Hidden Treasures called Nubar 2010. You can buy it at byNubar.com
